Islamic Education
A degree in Islamic Studies provides you with a knowledge and understanding of the core textual tradition of Islam, allowing you to engage with religious, philosophical and the wider intellectual discourses of Islam. If you are English speaking, for example, you will study the texts in translation, but you will typically receive a foundation in Arabic or another language which is widely used in Islamic societies.
Importance of Islamic Education
Islam placed a strong value on education, and as the faith spread among heterogeneity peoples, education became an important and necessary channel through which to create a universal and comprehensive social order.
Types of Islamic Education
In brief, we can identify four types of educational activity:
- Education of Muslims in their Islamic faith;
- Education for Muslims which includes the religious and secular disciplines;
- Education about Islam for those who are not Muslim;
- Education in an Islamic spirit and tradition.
Main Objective of Islam
The followers of Islam are called Muslims. Muslims are monotheistic and worship one, all-knowing God, who in Arabic is known as Allah. Followers of Islam aim to live a life of complete submission to Allah. They believe that nothing can happen without Allah’s permission, but humans have free will.
